Doubling Output With a STRIEBIG Control

Eric (Colonial Saw): Hi, I’m Eric with Colonial Saw. I’m here with Fabio from Renin. Fabio, can you tell us a bit about what Renin does?

Fabio (Renin): Renin is one of the largest manufacturers of interior doors, closet doors, and sliding door systems. We also produce a wide range of hardware. Much of what we make includes panel doors you’ll find at major retailers, but we also do custom work and wholesale manufacturing for other door producers.

Eric: You also have a U.S.-based facility, correct?

Fabio: We do. We have a great plant in Tupelo, Mississippi—the birthplace of Elvis—and they handle our U.S. operations. Our Canadian facility supports the rest of the business here in Canada.

Eric: You mentioned that you replaced a decades-old saw with a new Striebig Control vertical panel saw. How has that impacted production?

Fabio: The impact has been huge. We’ve effectively doubled our output with this machine. The old saw required operators to flip panels horizontally and vertically, which caused a lot of strain and created safety concerns—especially when handling multiple panels.

With the Striebig, we can load ten panels at once and cut everything in a single pass. We stack-cut regularly, and we use the saw not only for panels but also for laminated shelving boards used in our process. It’s a very versatile, multi-use machine.

Eric: So you’re stack cutting as well?

Fabio: Yes, we stack cut regularly. It’s made a massive difference.

Eric: How was the transition for your operators?

Fabio: At first, the machine looked a little intimidating compared to what we had before. But the training provided by Colonial Saw was excellent. The team set everything up properly, walked our operators through the process, and by the time they left, our guys were confident running the machine on their own.

Eric: We offer several models—from manual machines to fully automated systems—and Renin chose the Control, our automatic vertical panel saw. What drove that decision?

Fabio: Our previous machine was fully manual, and I saw firsthand how much fatigue it caused operators. Standing all day, dragging the saw head, flipping panels—it takes a toll.

With the automated Striebig Control, one operator can load ten panels and complete all horizontal and vertical cuts without repositioning the material. It’s far less tiring, far more precise, and much easier to use overall. It’s simply a more effective machine.

Eric: So automation allowed you to go from a two-person saw to a single-operator workflow?

Fabio: Absolutely.

Eric (Colonial Saw): Hi, I’m Eric with Colonial Saw. I’m here with Ankush from RK Doors. Ankush, can you tell us a bit about what RK Doors does?

Ankush (RK Doors): RK Doors is a manufacturer of architectural wood doors based in Toronto, Canada. We produce flush doors as well as stile-and-rail wood doors, and we sell and distribute our products throughout North America to woodworkers, millworkers, developers, and architects.

Eric: You recently added a Striebig vertical panel saw to your production facility. What led you to that decision?

Ankush: The overall build quality and construction of the machine really stood out. Compared to many other brands in the market, the Striebig was clearly superior. The Swiss engineering makes a huge difference — the Swiss really know how to build machines.

It turned out to be a great decision. Our operators love it. It’s very easy to use, requires minimal maintenance, and very little cleaning. The communication and service from Colonial Saw also made the purchase process effortless.

Eric: How did that affect training and onboarding?

Ankush: Training and maintenance requirements are minimal. Almost anyone can operate the machine, and it only takes a few hours to get someone up and running. If an operator runs the saw for a full shift, they’ll likely become an expert very quickly.

Eric: How has the Striebig impacted your production?

Ankush: It’s significantly improved our production efficiency. We use the Striebig to cut paint-grade door skins as well as crossband material for wood veneer doors.

Before, we were only able to cut one or two skins at a time. With the Striebig, we can now cut between eight and twelve skins stacked together, which is a major improvement.

Eric: That’s a big gain.

Ankush: Absolutely. Colonial Saw has always been just one call away if we need support — although we honestly haven’t needed to call much. But it’s reassuring to know they’re there.

Which STRIEBIG Fits Your Operation?

Start with maximum door thickness and workpiece length. All STRIEBIG models, including the Compact Series, are available in frame lengths capable of cutting workpieces over 17 feet. Most models can be configured for cutting lengths up to 30 feet.

The Compact Series offers a standard cutting depth of 2-3/8". Standard, Standard S, Edition 60, Evolution, Control, and 4D models provide 3-1/8" of standard cutting depth, with select configurations available for material up to 4" thick.
